Why your New Year Resolutions Fail
Hey Beautiful Human,
The thing about the New Year resolutions and why they fail is because;
- You are trying to do what the world says you should do.
- You are trying to do a thing not become the person who does a thing – two different energies I’ll explain as we go.
I’m a deeply emotional & spirited person which means I’m very in tune with my spirit and emotions, they are my guidance system. I have always known it but my logic and external world were what I was taught to trust and not my heart.
I have done a progressive job of listening and adhering to my spirit a lot more and it’s been the best thing I have done for myself although it took many havocs, failures and mistakes to get here but we are here now.
I spent most of my life having resolutions based on what the world says I should achieve e.g be a whole new person aka new year, new me which means, new external me.
Nothing external can happen without first happening internally, at least nothing significant.
You haven’t even explored the depths of your being, so this new you was always dead on arrival.
For me, it was always difficult to try to read 3 books a month or 12 books in the year, it was difficult to try to lose weight before the end of the first quarter of the year.
I cultivated a lot of new habits in the past two years and I didn’t start with it being a new resolution or serious goal I’d like to achieve;
- I just wanted to be someone who writes their daily gratitude journal because my spirit yearned for it, so I started one day with a sticky note and wrote 3 things I’m grateful for then put it in a jar and then the next day and the next, and two years later I have a whole folder on my iPad called the ‘’Daily Gratitude Journal’’ with images, text and videos of things I am grateful for each day.
- I just wanted to be someone who took walks to rejuvenate my stay-at-home energy, so I started to take 10-30 30-minute walks daily for 7 days and then another 7 days and another, and six months later, I found myself at the bridge of entering another city because I had been walking for 4 hours.
- I just wanted to feel light with my weight and be that girl who has a banging body again, so I started a juice cleanse for 3 days and then the next 3 days and 21 days later, I had lost 10kg, something I struggled to lose for 2 years.
- I just wanted to be that person who understands life, so I’m navigating and harnessing it beautifully in my favor in different contexts and parallels, so instead of reading 3 books a month, I read one book daily for 3 months patiently, so calmly like a child trying to learn their ABCs, I would read each words and sentences with a deep breath and think deeply what it meant, what is being passed across, how I can implement in my life and then practice it to become.
Notice the way I emphasized on ‘’Be’’ because my goal was not doing or having, my goal was being when you Be; doing and having effortlessly comes from Being.
A lot of the time, doing what the world tells you and not hearing what the spirit within you wants is such a collision of the brain and the heart, and there isn’t alignment hence you start a few days and drop it and then beat yourself up about not being disciplined and a procrastinator and those can be true to your logic but it can also be untrue the moment you align yourself with what your heart deeply wants to become, and you effortlessly do it and then realize‘’ I’m not lazy or a procrastinator, I just really didn’t want to do those things at those times or that season, because I’m effortlessly doing what my heart wants because I have become it and I’m smashing it’’
So I urge you today,
Take time out, just a few 30 minutes to an hour for the next few days, sit still all by yourself, go to the beachfront, sit by a tree, sit by a window that helps you see the outside, whatever enables you to be centered within your self and write, write what your heart deeply wants in the different pillars of your life, write what it looks like, what it feels like, how you’re experiencing it, with whom you’re experiencing it with.
Be Specific, do not let current or past situations, circumstances, and limitations stop you from being specific, and let your imagination and assumptions run wild as they used to, as a child.
If you do this the right way, you might find yourself going at it for 2-4 hours, don’t stop, let your spirit guide you to the truth of your being, let it guide you to the possibilities that sit in your heart, let it guide you to the becoming of who you truly are, to the fullness of your being.
You can summarise everything into a sentence to read daily and let your subconscious mind receive it as your new truth.
And then take action points from it, daily take minimal actions towards it when you feel ready to but the most important thing is to read it to yourself verbally & mentally daily to become.

- Oneness with God which is centred around spirituality
- Health & Wellness
- Relationships – Love, Friendship, Family
- Wealth & Prosperity
- Personal & Professional living
- And whatever is deeply important to you, your heart, and your spirit.
